Symptoms of mastocytosis often involve allergic responses triggered by chemicals released by mast cells. These symptoms include flushing, itching, abdominal cramping, and even shock. When there is an excessive presence of mast cells in the body, additional chemicals released can lead to:
- Musculoskeletal pain
- Abdominal discomfort
- Nausea and vomiting
- Ulcers
- Diarrhea
- Skin lesions
Furthermore, mastocytosis can result in episodes of hypotension (very low blood pressure leading to faintness) or anaphylaxis (shock).
