Symptoms of Interstitial Cystitis:
- Pelvic pressure or pain: Individuals with interstitial cystitis may experience varying degrees of pressure in the pelvic region, accompanied by pulsating pain and discomfort ranging from mild to severe.
- Urge to urinate: A frequent urge to urinate is a common symptom, even when the bladder contains small amounts of urine. Some individuals may need to urinate up to 60 times a day, although this frequency can vary.
- Heightened bladder pain during menstruation: Women with interstitial cystitis often experience increased bladder pain during their menstrual cycle.
- Painful sexual intercourse: Particularly in women, vaginal pain during sexual intercourse is common among those with interstitial cystitis.
- Sore scrotum: Men with interstitial cystitis may experience soreness or pain in the scrotal area.
Symptoms may occur in isolation or in various combinations, and external factors such as prolonged sitting, strenuous activities, or sexual activity can trigger symptoms. Stressful situations can exacerbate symptoms and should be minimized. The onset of symptoms can be gradual or sudden, with symptoms sometimes progressing over time to a debilitating level before going into remission.
