Head lice typically reside on the scalp, particularly behind the ears and near the hairline at the back of the neck. They have hook-like claws on each of their six legs, using them to grasp onto hair. While head lice are primarily found on the scalp, they can also infest the body, eyelashes, or eyebrows, though this is rare and often mistaken for dandruff.
Symptoms of head lice include:
- A tickling sensation as if something is moving in the hair.
- Scalp itching due to an allergic reaction to lice bites.
- Sores on the scalp resulting from scratching.
- Infections of the scalp sores.
- General irritability, which is a nonspecific symptom.
