Multifocal motor neuropathy is a progressive muscle disorder marked by asymmetrical weakness primarily affecting the hands. It tends to impact more males than females. Symptoms encompass muscle cramps, muscle atrophy, and involuntary muscle twitching or contractions, particularly in the legs. Despite similarities to amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS), multifocal motor neuropathy is distinguishable and treatable, unlike ALS.
Prognosis
The outlook for multifocal motor neuropathy hinges on prompt diagnosis and timely initiation of treatment. Following treatment, improvements in muscle strength typically commence within 3 to 6 weeks. Many patients who undergo early intervention report minimal to no disability.
